NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 6060 may be outperformed by the graphics processor in PlayStation 6. This was reported by leaker Kepler_L2 on the NeoGAF forum.

PS6 could rival the RTX 5070 Ti

Preliminary estimates suggest that PlayStation 6’s graphics processor will perform on par with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti or even the RTX 5080. Kepler_L2 doubts that the upcoming RTX 6060 will be able to match Sony’s new console.

However, it is difficult to compare a discrete PC graphics card directly with a console GPU. Performance depends on architecture, memory bandwidth, power consumption, and how games are optimized for specific hardware. The real balance of performance will therefore become clear only after both devices are released.

RTX 6060 won’t arrive until 2029

According to Kepler_L2, NVIDIA may significantly delay the release of affordable next-generation graphics cards because of component shortages. In such circumstances, the company usually prioritizes more expensive models, while budget options arrive much later.

A similar situation occurred with the launch of the RTX 50 series. The flagship GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 went on sale in January 2025, while the more affordable RTX 5060 did not arrive until May.

The leaker believes NVIDIA will follow a similar strategy for the RTX 60 series. As a result, the RTX 6060 may not debut until 2029. The company has not yet disclosed the release schedule for its next generation of graphics cards.

What we know about PlayStation 6’s graphics

Sony and AMD have already unveiled several promising graphics technologies developed as part of their joint Amethyst project.

These include Neural Arrays for accelerating AI computations, Radiance Cores for ray tracing, and Universal Compression for improving memory efficiency. These technologies are expected to form the foundation of PlayStation 6’s graphics subsystem.
