Bought a GeForce RTX 5090 for €3000 but received rice, pasta, and an old graphics card
A customer from the Netherlands ordered a flagship GeForce RTX 5090 on Amazon, but instead received bags of rice, pasta, and an old graphics card.
A gamer under the username Ok-Atmosphere7655 shared the incident on Reddit. According to him, he had been saving money for over a year for a graphics accelerator capable of working with his 57-inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 gaming monitor.
The buyer chose an item marked as “new” that was sold directly by Amazon and placed an order for approximately €3000. The package was shipped from a warehouse in Spain and was delayed in transit for about a week.

When the order was finally delivered, instead of the flagship graphics card weighing over two kilograms, the branded box contained two bags of rice, a pack of pasta, and an old, dust-covered graphics adapter of an unknown model. Upon inspection, the buyer noticed that the factory security seal had been cut and then taped back on.
The contents of the box were apparently selected so that its weight would be close to that of the original Gigabyte graphics card. This allowed the swap to potentially go unnoticed during automated weight checks at various stages of delivery.

It is not known exactly when or under what circumstances the contents of the box were replaced. One theory is that the graphics card may have been purchased by another customer who replaced its contents and initiated a return, after which the item was put back on sale without a thorough inspection.
The buyer contacted Amazon support and sent photos of the received order. The company asked for the box to be returned along with all its contents for inspection. As of the time of publication, a final decision on a refund had not yet been made.
