NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 disappears from stores – prices approach $10000
GeForce RTX 5090 is becoming increasingly difficult to buy in the US – marketplaces are listing individual RTX 5090s for $6700-9659.

The recommended launch price for the GeForce RTX 5090 was $1999. However, as of September 16, the situation in U.S. retail looks quite different. Newegg currently offers only two ASUS 20th Anniversary bundles directly. The more affordable bundle is priced at $10 $849.96 and includes the ROG Astral RTX 5090 Edition 20 graphics card, the ROG Crosshair X870E Edition 20 motherboard, the ROG Thor 3000W power supply, and the ROG GR20 Edition case.
Individual graphics cards on the Newegg marketplace are sold by third-party vendors. MSI Ventus is priced at $6699,99, ASUS ROG Astral at $9659, and the white version of ROG Astral at $8699. Another ROG Astral is offered for $9290. Meanwhile, Newegg’s own listing for ROG Astral RTX 5090 Edition 20 at $5999,99 is already out of stock.
At Micro Center, the situation is slightly better: some versions of the RTX 5090 are still available for around $4399-5300, but stock depends on the specific store, and pickup must be done in person. At Best Buy, individual listings reach approximately $7500. PC Gamer also found an ASUS TUF RTX 5090 listed at $6800, while a Gigabyte Windforce that cost $5700 just a few days earlier was now being sold by a third-party seller for $9050.
The situation in Europe also bears little resemblance to the recommended prices. At the time of checking on September 16, the German site Geizhals showed only a single offer for the GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition at €5799,99. For comparison, NVIDIA’s European launch recommended price was €2329.
Part RTX of the 5090 goes into AI systems
One reason for the decline in retail inventory could be demand from companies building artificial intelligence systems. HKEPC published photos, allegedly taken at system integrators, showing pallets of new retail GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs being unpacked for installation into multi-processor servers. These are standard RTX 5090 models, not professional RTX PRO 6000 series or specialized NVIDIA accelerators.
For such tasks, the RTX 5090 is interesting due to its combination of 32 GB GDDR7 memory and a claimed computational performance of up to 3352 AI TOPS. Therefore, consumer-grade graphics cards are used not only in gaming PCs and workstations but also in systems with multiple GPU.
At the same time, the published photos alone do not prove that mass purchases for AI are the sole cause of the shortage. NVIDIA has not announced the discontinuation of GeForce RTX 5090 production, and the model remains in the company’s current lineup. However, availability of the flagship in regular retail has noticeably declined, and remaining offers are increasingly diverging from the original price of $1999.
