Motorola has unveiled the Signature 27, featuring a dual-layer OLED display, a 200MP periscope camera and a dedicated motion-tracking sensor. The smartphone will also be Motorola’s first device to support GrapheneOS.

Display

The Motorola Signature 27’s standout feature is its 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo display, built using Tandem OLED technology. Motorola says the design improves energy efficiency by up to 34% and extends the panel’s lifespan by up to 121% compared with conventional AMOLED displays.

The panel supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz and has a resolution of 2772 × 1272 pixels. Full-screen brightness is rated at up to 3,000 nits, while peak brightness reaches 12, in an area covering about 1% of the screen. The latter figure does not reflect the brightness of the entire panel in everyday use. Dolby Vision and Pantone Validated color calibration are supported. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.

Performance and cooling

The smartphone is powered by the 2nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. Heat is managed by the multilayer ArcticMesh cooling system, which combines diamond-particle thermal gel, liquid metal, copper mesh and a three-dimensional vapor chamber that is 40% larger than the previous generation’s.

Configurations include 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Available combinations vary by market.

Cameras

The main camera system comprises three cameras:

  • 50MP – main camera with a Sony LYTIA L910 sensor in 1/1,28-inch optical format, 1.22μm pixels, LOFIC support, an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization;
  • 50MP – ultrawide camera with a 1/2,76-inch-format sensor, an f/2.0 aperture, a 122° field of view and macro photography from as close as 2.5cm;
  • 200MP – periscope camera with a 1/1,56-inch-format sensor, an f/2.6 aperture, three-times optical zoom and up to 100× magnification in Super Zoom Pro mode. Generative AI is used at magnifications from 20× to 100×, so this zoom should not be equated with optical zoom.

The phone also has an EVS Action Sensor, which records changes in light intensity at the individual-pixel level, independently of the main cameras. Combined with Action Shot mode, it helps select settings for capturing moving subjects.

Motorola says this reduces motion blur, including in low light. The front camera has a 50MP resolution, a 1/2,75-inch-format sensor, an f/1.9 aperture, autofocus and 4K video recording. The main camera supports 8K recording and 4K slow-motion video at 120fps. Dolby Vision and video processing through Video Enhancement Engine are also supported.

Battery and other features

The silicon-carbon battery has a typical capacity of 7,000mAh and a rated capacity of 6,790mAh. The German version is an exception, with capacities of 5,500mAh and 5,350mAh, respectively.

The phone supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, as well as reverse charging. Charging wirelessly from 0 to 100% takes up to 80 minutes when using a compatible charger with Charge Boost enabled.

The body is rated IP68, IP69 and IP69K for water and dust resistance, and has also passed tests under selected MIL-STD-810H procedures. The frame is made of aluminum, while the camera module features ceramic and brushed aluminum. The stereo speakers are tuned in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen. The smartphone measures 162,01 × 77,04 × 7,99mm and weighs 227g.

The smartphone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 8, Bluetooth 7, NFC, nano-SIM and eSIM. It has a USB Type-C 3.2 port and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. Navigation systems supported are GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and NavIC.

Operating system

The Signature 27 will be Motorola’s first smartphone to support the secure operating system GrapheneOS. Developed in collaboration with the GrapheneOS Foundation, the device supports ARM Memory Tagging Extension, a hardware-based memory tagging feature that helps detect some memory access errors and makes them harder to exploit in attacks. The technology does not guarantee protection against every type of attack.

The smartphone ships with Android 17. Motorola will share details of GrapheneOS installation and availability dates later; one-click switching between the operating systems has not been announced.

GrapheneOS does not include Google services by default, but allows users to install them as regular apps without system privileges. The manufacturer promises seven major Android updates and up to seven years of security patches from the global launch. Google Gemini and Motorola Qira are also included; AI feature availability depends on the country, language and software updates.
