Honor introduces Magic 9 Super Edition with 11,000 mAh battery and built-in turbine

The main feature of the Honor Magic 9 Super Edition is its focus on maximum battery life and a built-in active cooling system, all while maintaining a moderate body thickness.

Screen

The Honor Magic 9 Super Edition features a flat 6.81-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2788 by 1280 pixels (450 ppi), a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and a maximum local peak brightness of 10,000 nits when playing HDR content.

The overall automatic brightness under direct sunlight is 2,000 nits. To reduce eye strain and combat flickering at low brightness levels, the manufacturer has implemented 3,840 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming technology, which is complemented by hardware-based blue light filters. The bezels around the display have been narrowed to nearly 1 mm on all sides.

Processor cooling

The gadget’s performance is powered by a 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Cooling is handled by a complex multi-layer Jade Plate-level Cooling System 2.0 vapor chamber and Honor’s proprietary active Dongfeng fan.

The built-in micro-turbine can spin up to 30,000 RPM, providing airflow through the internal components. This system effectively dissipates heat from the chipset, completely eliminating performance drops and processor throttling during long gaming sessions. High application speeds are ensured by LPDDR5X RAM and fast UFS 4.1 storage.

Cameras

On the back panel, there is a module with three sensors:

• 200 MP main module Samsung S5KHP5, 1/1,55″, f/1.9, OIS;
• 12 MP wide-angle lens, f/2.2, autofocus;
• 50 MP Sony LYTIA 500 telephoto lens, 1/2,93″, f/2.4, 68 mm equivalent focal length, OIS, 3x optical zoom, up to 100x digital zoom.

A 50 MP front-facing camera is used for selfies and video calls. The smartphone supports 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second and features proprietary AI image processing algorithms.

Battery

The device features a record-breaking 11,000 mAh Qinghai Lake silicon-carbon battery for its class, with an energy density of 963 Wh/L. Despite such an impressive power source capacity, engineers managed to keep the body thickness at just 8.1 mm, although the smartphone’s total weight is 227 grams due to the cooler and dense internal layout. Energy replenishment is handled by 80W fast wired charging technology, and 50W wireless charging is also supported.

Other features

An optical fingerprint scanner is built under the display for security. The device features stereo speakers, a proprietary C3 signal enhancement chip, an IR blaster for controlling appliances, and a dedicated physical button for quick access to artificial intelligence functions.

The device’s chassis features maximum dust and moisture protection across three standards—IP68, IP69, and IP69K—allowing it to withstand high-pressure water jets without damage. The smartphone runs on the MagicOS 11 interface based on the Android 17 operating system.

Release dates, colors, and price

Sales of the Honor Magic 9 Super Edition in the Chinese market will begin simultaneously with the rest of the lineup on September 28. The device comes in four color options: yellow, black, white, and green.
