Sony unveiled the Xperia 10 VIII – OLED 120 Hz and Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 for €599
Sony Xperia 10 VIII – a new mid-range smartphone featuring a brighter OLED display, improved stereo speakers, and extended software support. At the same time, a 3.5 mm jack and a microSD card slot remain.
Design
Compared to the previous model Sony Xperia 10 VII, there is practically nothing new in the Xperia 10 VIII. Sony has retained its usual concise design without notches or holes in the screen. The side bezels are quite thin, while the top and bottom bezels are noticeably thicker than those of most smartphones in this price range.
One of the few external changes was the back panel, designed in the Translucent Layer concept. Sony used a translucent material with a matte finish, which gave the chassis an effect of several layers stacked on top of each other.
The smartphone’s dimensions are 153 × 72 × 8,3 mm, and its weight is 168 grams. The body is protected against water and dust according to IP65/IP68 standards, and the screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass. The fingerprint scanner is built into the side power button. There is also a dedicated camera button that allows you to quickly start recording even from the locked screen.
Display
The Xperia 10 VIII is equipped with a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display with 2340 × 1080 pixels resolution, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Compared to the Xperia 10 VII, screen brightness has increased by approximately 50%, however Sony has not disclosed the maximum value in nits. Also, automatic color adjustment based on ambient lighting has been added.
Sound
Front stereo speakers, located in the top and bottom bezels, have also received improvements. Volume increased by approximately 15%, and bass became more powerful by over 30%. The smartphone supports Hi-Res Audio, LDAC, 360 Reality Audio, DSEE Ultimate, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive. The 3.5 mm jack for wired headphones has also been retained.
Performance
Sony continues to use the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor along with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Additionally, up to 6 GB of virtual RAM can be utilized. microSDXC cards up to 2 TБ are supported, which keeps the Xperia 10 VIII as one of the few modern smartphones with expandable memory.
Cameras
The rear panel features the same dual camera as the Xperia 10 VII:
- 50 MP – main camera with Exmor RS sensor of 1/1,56 inch, f/1.9 aperture, and optical stabilization;
- 13 MP – ultra-wide camera with a 1/3-inch sensor, f/2.4 aperture, and 123° field of view.
The main camera also allows shooting with 2x zoom, corresponding to a focal length of 48 mm. Hybrid stabilization OIS/EIS is used when recording video.
The front features an 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
Battery life
The battery capacity also remains unchanged. The smartphone received a 5000 мА·ч battery with support for charging at up to 30 W via USB Power Delivery. Sony claims up to two days of battery life. The Battery Care system is designed to ensure that after four years of use, the battery retains at least 80% of its original capacity.
Other
Xperia 10 VIII supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, GPS and USB Type-C. Also supported are nanoSIM and eSIM.
The smartphone runs on Android 16 with a nearly pure Sony interface. The company promises up to four major Android updates and six years of security updates. Google Gemini and “Circle to Search” features are also available.
Release dates, colors, and price
The Xperia 10 VIII will go on sale in Europe in the second half of September. The smartphone will be available in three colors: Frozen White, Frosted Grey and Misty Lilac. The price of the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage is 599 euros. Last year’s Xperia 10 VII cost €449.
