The POCO X8 smartphone largely replicates the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, but features a different design, a simplified secondary camera, and lacks eSIM support. At the same time, it retains a large 8340 мА·ч battery, a 1.5K AMOLED display, and body protection up to IP69K.

Chassis and design

POCO X8 is available in black, white, and orange colors. The rear panel features the brand’s signature design with geometric surface division and a large camera module.

The smartphone’s dimensions are 163,45 × 78,27 × 8,6 mm, and its weight is 223 grams.

The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass. The smartphone has received IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications, so it is capable of withstanding not only immersion in water but also exposure to high-pressure hot water jets.

In laboratory tests, the device withstood immersion to a depth of up to 2 meters. POCO also claims certified drop resistance from heights up to 3 meters.

Display

POCO X8 is equipped with a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2772 × 1280 pixels and an update rate of up to 120 Hz.

The panel supports 12-bit color depth and the DCI-P3 color space. Pixel density is 447 ppi, and contrast ratio is 8,000,000:1.

Typical brightness reaches 1060 nits, while peak brightness on part of the screen is 3500 nits.

The standard touch sampling rate is 240 Hz, and in gaming mode it can temporarily increase to 3200 Hz.

DC Dimming and PWM at a frequency of 3840 Hz are used to control brightness. Also, Wet Touch 2.0 technology is provided, which improves touch recognition with wet fingers.

Performance

Performance is handled by Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. The chip is manufactured using a 4-nm process, and the maximum frequency of the processor cores reaches 2.4 ГГц.

POCO claims a score of up to 946,548 points in AnTuTu.

The smartphone is available in three configurations:

  • 6/128 GB;
  • 8/256 GB;
  • 12/256 GB.

LPDDR4X RAM is used. The 128 GB version features a UFS 2.2 storage drive, while the 256 GB variants are equipped with a faster UFS 3.1.

Cameras

The main camera has a resolution of 50 MP, an f/1.8 aperture lens, and optical image stabilization.

The second module is a 2-megapixel depth sensor. This is where one of the main differences from the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G lies, which instead has a full-fledged ultra-wide-angle camera with 8 MP.

The front camera has a resolution of 16 MP.

The main and front cameras record video at a maximum of 1080p at 30 frames per second.

A special underwater shooting mode is also provided. The camera can be controlled underwater using physical buttons, and after exiting the mode, the smartphone uses speaker vibration to remove any remaining water inside.

Battery

One of the main features of the POCO X8 is a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 8340 мА·ч.

The manufacturer claims more than two days of operation without recharging. After 1600 cycles, the battery should retain at least 80% of its original capacity, which corresponds to approximately six years of regular use.

Wired charging with a power of 67 W is supported, as well as reverse charging up to 22.5 W, so the smartphone can be used as an external battery for other devices.

Other

POCO X8 features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. The manufacturer also claims the ability to increase volume up to 300%.

The fingerprint scanner is built into the display. There is NFC, an infrared transmitter, GPS, and 5G network support. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.

The smartphone runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 3. Among the software capabilities are Google Gemini, Circle to Search, AI Erase, reflection removal, image expansion, and other AI-powered photo editing tools.

Differences between POCO X8 and Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G

Technically, the smartphones are very similar. They have identical dimensions and weight, a 6.83-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a 50 MP main camera with OIS, an 8340 мА·ч battery, and 67 W charging.

Redmi Note 17 Pro

The main simplification of POCO was the camera. The 8-megapixel ultra-wide module of the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G was replaced with a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Also, the POCO X8 does not support eSIM and is limited to a 256 GB storage capacity, whereas the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G is available in versions up to 512 GB. At the same time, the 256 GB models of both smartphones use UFS 3.1, while the 128 GB versions use UFS 2.2.
