Sennheiser has released the Momentum True Wireless 5 headphones with Dolby Atmos and swappable batteries.

Sennheiser has launched the flagship TWS earbuds Momentum True Wireless 5. The model received a new chassis, improved noise cancellation, Bluetooth 6.0, and Dolby Atmos spatial audio. But the main change is that the batteries are replaceable not only in the charging case but also in each earbud.

Design and Protection

The earbud design has been completely redesigned based on scanning thousands of ear canals. The body has become more rounded, and additional fixing “fins” have been abandoned. In internal tests, Sennheiser found that 73% of participants rated the new design as more comfortable than the previous generation.

Each earbud weighs 7 grams, the charging case – 55 grams. The total weight of the kit is approximately 62 grams. Case dimensions are 67,2×48,4×25 mm.

The headphones are protected by the IP54 standard against dust, sweat, and splashes. The charging case does not have IP54 protection.

Sound

Momentum True Wireless 5 are equipped with 7-mm TrueResponse dynamic drivers, which are manufactured at the Sennheiser factory in Tallaght, Ireland. Frequency range – from 5 Hz to 21 kHz, sensitivity – 107 dB SPL, total harmonic distortion – less than 0.08%.

SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless are supported. On compatible devices, audio can be transmitted with a resolution of up to 24 bit/96 kHz.

Support for Dolby Atmos and head tracking has also been added. When turning your head, the virtual soundstage remains in place, creating the effect of stationary speakers. Head Tracking works not only with Dolby Atmos content.

The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app features an eight-band equalizer and Sound Personalization. The latest feature was developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute and tailors the sound to the user’s preferences after a series of audio tests.

Noise cancellation and calls

Momentum True Wireless 5 received an updated hybrid adaptive noise cancellation. New silicone ear pads seal the ear canal more tightly and improve passive isolation.

Adaptive Anti-Wind recognizes wind and adjusts microphone operation to reduce its noise. Natural Transparency mode transmits ambient sounds with minimal latency.

For calls, six standard microphones and two bone conduction sensors are used – three microphones and one sensor in each earbud. Sensors capture voice vibrations, and processing algorithms separate the owner’s speech from ambient noise and other people’s voices.

Removable batteries

The main feature of Momentum True Wireless 5 is the ability to independently replace batteries in both earbuds and the charging case. No service center is needed for replacement. The necessary tool is already included in the kit.

Each earbud is equipped with a 72 мА·ч battery, and the case contains a 760 мА·ч battery. Without active noise cancellation, the headphones work up to 12 hours on a single charge, with ANC – up to 6 hours. Together with the case, total battery life reaches 40 hours.

For comparison, the Momentum True Wireless 4 worked for up to 7.5 hours without ANC and up to 30 hours with the case. Full charging takes about an hour and a half. Eight minutes of charging provide approximately one hour of music playback. The case charges via USB-C at up to 5 W or wirelessly using the Qi 2.1 standard.

Connection

Momentum True Wireless 5 have transitioned from Bluetooth 5.4 to Bluetooth 6.0. There is Multipoint for simultaneous connection to multiple devices, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair.

Separate Robust Mode enhances connection stability in areas with a high density of wireless devices. Snapdragon Sound support enables aptX Lossless, and the low-latency mode is designed for gaming.

The package includes headphones, a charging case, a USB-C cable, silicone ear tips in sizes XS, S, M, and L, a battery replacement tool, and documentation.

Price and release date

Sales of Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 will begin on September 3, 2026. Pre-orders are now open. Five colors are available: Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender.

The price is $299,95 in the US, €299,90 in Europe, £249,99 in the UK, and 479.95 Australian dollars in Australia.
