Apple revealed the nominal battery capacities of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is quite unusual for the company.

Specific values appeared in documentation for the European market: the iPhone 18 Pro battery has a capacity of 4056 mAh, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max – 5391 mAh. The publication of these data is linked to energy labeling requirements for smartphones currently in force in the European Union.

Now, the new Pro models can be compared to the previous generation not only by advertised battery life but also by nominal battery capacity. The iPhone 18 Pro has an increase of 68 mAh, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max sees a jump of 568 mAh. For comparison, European versions of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were equipped with batteries of 3988 mAh and 4823 mAh, respectively.

The change is especially noticeable in the iPhone 18 Pro Max: battery capacity increased by nearly 12%. Apple states that the eSIM version of the smartphone delivers the largest battery life improvement in iPhone history. The company attributes this to the larger battery and improved energy efficiency of the hardware platform. For the iPhone 18 Pro, the capacity increase is significantly more modest—about 1.7%.

At the same time, battery capacity depends on the smartphone version. In countries where iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are released with eSIM only, the absence of a physical SIM card slot allowed Apple to use the freed-up space to increase the battery size. The company does not disclose the exact battery capacities for these versions but states up to 36 hours of video playback for iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours for iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The battery capacity itself does not determine smartphone runtime. Battery life is also influenced by power consumption of the display, processor, and modem, as well as software optimization; therefore, directly comparing models solely by their milliampere-hour ratings is incorrect.
