Apple releases iOS 27.2: What’s new
The new version teaches Siri AI to take past conversations into account and adds support for more languages. iPhone Duo also gains Apple Pencil support. Apple has also updated Messages, Photos, Apple Music, Podcasts, Apple TV, FaceTime, and other system apps.
Siri AI remembers past conversations
Siri AI can now refer to previous conversations with the user. For example, you can ask the assistant to recall a restaurant it recommended a few days ago without having to explain the context again.
Siri AI can also take a wider range of personal data into account when generating a response. It uses photos from Messages, event attendees from Calendar, voicemail, Safari history, and the Reading List.
A new “Excluded Apps” section in Settings lets you prevent Siri, system search, and recommendations from using data from specific apps. You can also now copy just the relevant part of a Siri response.
Siri AI works on all iPhone 16 models and later, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. iOS 27.2 adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The feature is still unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.
iPhone Duo adds Apple Pencil support
iPhone Duo now supports Apple Pencil (USB-C). Other Apple Pencil models don’t work with the smartphone.

Apple Pencil can be used on both the outer and inner displays to take notes, draw, and mark up documents. The stylus connects to and charges from iPhone Duo via a USB-C cable.

A new Edge Light feature is also available. During a video call, the edges of the inner display illuminate the user’s face. Brightness and color temperature can be adjusted, and the feature can turn on automatically in low light.
Messages suggests actions based on conversations
Apple Intelligence now analyzes conversations in Messages and suggests relevant actions. It can create a Calendar event or reminder, open a location in Maps, or show details about a flight or delivery.
You can choose which types of suggestions to receive in Settings. At the time of iOS 27.2’s release, the feature works only in English.
Photos adds SynthID and shared album updates
You can now edit captions and comments in shared albums. The system also warns you when you try to add photos that are already there and can remind you to save photos before an album expires.
iOS 27.2 supports invisible SynthID marking for images created or substantially edited with generative AI. It is applied in Image Playground and during some editing operations in Photos.
The marking is embedded in the file, making it possible to identify the use of generative processing without a visible watermark.
Apple Music gets a new look
Apple Music now has a monochrome icon instead of a red-and-white one. In the interface, the active tab is now highlighted in blue, and widgets have a black background.
Apple did not announce any changes to recommendation algorithms or audio playback quality as part of this update.
Updates to Podcasts, Apple TV, and Games
In Podcasts, new and in-progress episodes are now split into New Episodes and Continue Playing sections, replacing the former Up Next section.
Apple TV now has separate profiles, each with its own watch history and recommendations. Parental controls are available for child profiles.
iPhone also gets Multiview, which lets you watch up to four supported live sports streams at once. Availability depends on the country, event, and subscription.
Apple Games has updated its Friends tab: user profiles now show recently played games and additional recommendation details.
New FaceTime features
Dual Capture now works in FaceTime group calls, allowing compatible iPhones to simultaneously stream video from the front and rear cameras.
You can also add a third-party sign language interpreter or real-time captioning specialist to a video call.
New Home and HomePod features
Home now offers the Lock After Closing and Door Left Open settings for compatible smart locks. They let you lock the door automatically after it closes and send a notification if it stays open. You can set the notification delay to 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

HomePod 27.2 adds Lock Controls, which disables ordinary taps on the top panel to prevent accidental control of playback and volume.
New Shortcuts features
Shortcuts now has an automation that responds when iPhone Duo opens or closes. It lets you launch selected actions depending on the smartphone’s position.
Apple has also expanded automations for workouts and apps, and you can now change shortcut names and icons directly from the library.
Security fixes
iOS 27.2 fixes vulnerabilities in Apple Intelligence, Siri, WebKit, Bluetooth, Calendar, Contacts, image and audio processing components, the system kernel, and other modules.
Some bugs could have caused memory corruption, data disclosure, or arbitrary code execution when processing specially crafted web content.
