Apple has released iOS 27.0.1 (build 24A446), the first update since the launch of iOS 27 on September 14. The new version fixes three bugs, including touchscreen freezing and Face ID malfunctions.

What was fixed in iOS 27.0.1

According to Apple’s official description, the update fixes the following issues:

  • Unexpected reboots. iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could freeze and reboot on their own if Face ID failed to recognize the owner. The issue also occurred when attempting to unlock protected apps.
  • Artifacts in photos. On a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices, color image defects could appear when shooting with 2× zoom and an f/1.48 aperture under certain lighting conditions.
  • Touchscreen freezing. Simultaneously opening the “Notification Center” and “Control Center” sometimes resulted in the display becoming completely unresponsive to touch.

The latest fix is particularly relevant in light of complaints that emerged following the release of iOS 27. Owners of various iPhone models reported touch input delays, issues with gesture recognition, and intermittent interface freezes.

Touchscreen issues after installing iOS 27

One of the most serious cases was described on the Apple Developer forum by an owner of an iPhone 17 Pro. After updating from iOS 26.7 to iOS 27, the smartphone completely stopped responding to touch, although the display functioned normally and the physical buttons continued to work.

A clean restore via Apple Configurator without transferring a backup did not help. Reverting to iOS 26 restored sensor functionality, but reinstalling iOS 27 caused the malfunction again. At the same time, Apple’s remote diagnostics did not reveal any obvious hardware issues.

Similar complaints have appeared on Reddit from owners of the iPhone 12 Pro, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. Users described scrolling delays, incorrect swipe recognition, and stuttering animations.

Apple has not yet confirmed that iOS 27.0.1 resolves all the listed issues. The official release notes only mention a fix for a specific freezing scenario that occurs when opening two system panels simultaneously.

How to install iOS 27.0.1

The update is now available for all iPhone models compatible with iOS 27, starting from the iPhone 11 series, as well as the second and third generation iPhone SE.

To install, go to Settings → General → Software Update, download iOS 27.0.1, and confirm the installation.

At the same time, Apple released iPadOS 17.0.1 for compatible tablets. However, the company did not disclose a detailed list of fixes for the iPad.
