HP OmniBook 3 unveiled – a MacBook Neo rival at $499
OmniBook 3 (14-hz0488nr) is positioned as a competitor to MacBook Neo. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor, the laptop stands out for its long battery life and OLED display.
Performance
The HP OmniBook 3 is powered by an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X X1-26-100 processor. The chip operates at frequencies up to 3.0 ГГц and is equipped with 30 MB of cache memory. The integrated Adreno X1 handles the graphics component, while NPU is provided for accelerating artificial intelligence tasks with performance up to 45 TOPS.
The amount of RAM is 8 GB LPDDR5X, and NVMe SSD with 256 GB capacity is provided for data storage. It remains unknown whether the RAM will be soldered directly onto the motherboard or if HP will use the more modern LPCAMM2 standard. This, in particular, will determine the possibility of a subsequent upgrade.
Display
The HP OmniBook 3 received a screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. In terms of pixel density, this panel falls short of some competitors, including the MacBook Neo, but HP is betting on OLED technology. The main advantage of the display will be its rich color reproduction: a coverage of 100% of the DCI-P3 color space is claimed. The manufacturer also specifies a response time of 0.2 ms and a maximum brightness of 300 nits.
Battery life
One of the most interesting features of the OmniBook 3 is a 60 Wh battery. The laptop can operate for up to 41 hours on a single charge. The package includes a compact 65W USB-C GaN charger with fast charging support.
Other
Despite its compact form factor, HP did not limit itself to just USB-C. The laptop is equipped with two USB-C ports supporting DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery, as well as two full-size USB-A ports. HDMI 2.1 is provided for connecting an external monitor or TV.
There is also a traditional 3.5 mm audio jack. Wireless communications are represented by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. For video calls, there is a built-in 1080p webcam located above the display. Dimensions are 31,39 × 22,61 × 1,47 cm, weight is 1.42 kg.
Price
The price of the HP OmniBook 3 at Best Buy starts at $500, while on Amazon the laptop is offered for $600. For comparison, the MacBook Neo starts at $699.
Thus, the OmniBook 3 can attract buyers who need a modern laptop with an OLED screen, long battery life, and artificial intelligence features, but do not want to overpay for a more expensive model.
