Apple TV 4K with A19 processor and Siri AI introduced for $299

Apple has introduced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K with an A19 processor, three built-in microphones, and an updated Siri AI voice assistant. The set-top box is more powerful and features new connectivity standards and support for surround sound with four HomePod speakers.

Siri AI and voice control

Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, has received a full-screen interface and can now understand conversation context and execute complex requests. The assistant can find series by awards, select content based on specific criteria, and provide information about movies. During playback, responses appear in a small window over the image.

When a compatible iPhone or iPad is connected, Siri AI also takes personal context into account. For example, if asked to play a recommended series, the assistant can find it using available user data.

The set-top box can now be controlled without a remote. Three built-in far-field microphones with echo and background noise cancellation recognize commands even while movies and music are playing.

At launch, the beta version of Siri AI is available only in English in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa. It requires tvOS 27.2 and a compatible iPhone or iPad with Siri AI enabled.

In the European Union, the new Siri is initially unavailable. However, standard voice control via the microphones supports English, German, French, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Hebrew, and Mandarin Chinese.

Siri AI will also come to the second and third-generation Apple TV 4K.

Performance and playback

Apple TV 4K is equipped with an A19 processor, which provides a performance boost of CPU up to 50% and GPU up to two times compared to the previous model with the A15 Bionic. This should speed up navigation, animations, apps, and games.

The processor includes a hardware AV1 decoder for more efficient video playback with lower bandwidth requirements.

The console supports video up to 4K at 60 frames per second, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and AV1, VP9, HEVC, and H.264 codecs. It features HDMI Quick Media Switching (QMS) to reduce latency when switching video formats and a 21:9 aspect ratio for compatible screens and projectors.

Supported audio formats include Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital 5.1, and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1.

Surround sound with four HomePods

The new Apple TV 4K allows you to create a surround sound system using four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers. The console automatically detects speaker placement and adjusts latency and volume.

Different HomePod models can be used for the front and rear, but devices within each pair must match. The feature requires a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and current software.

Connectivity and Siri Remote

The Apple TV 4K features 128 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) with MIMO 2×2, Bluetooth 6, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, an infrared receiver, and support for Thread and Matter for smart home integration.

The updated fourth-generation Siri Remote retains the touch-sensitive clickpad, physical buttons, and USB-C charging. The remote can be located via the Find My app: it plays a sound, and Precision Finding shows the direction and distance to it.

Precision finding requires an iPhone 17 or later (excluding iPhone 17e), iPhone Air, or iPhone Duo with current iOS. The new remote is also compatible with Apple TV HD and previous generations of Apple TV 4K and is sold separately.

Smart home and data protection

Apple TV 4K can serve as a home control hub. With a compatible video doorbell, users can see visitors on their TV, speak with them, and unlock smart locks without interrupting their viewing.

Automation, guest access, and HomeKit Secure Video are supported. Apple Intelligence can describe events in security camera footage and create notification summaries. AI descriptions require a compatible iPhone or iPad and an eligible iCloud+ subscription.

Microphone data is protected by a Secure Enclave. Siri AI processes requests locally or via Private Cloud Compute. According to Apple, cloud data is not stored and is inaccessible to the company. HomeKit Secure Video recordings are protected by end-to-end encryption.

Other features and dimensions

The device supports Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, FaceTime via an iPhone or iPad camera, iCloud Photos, and personalized screensavers with automatic category switching.

The chassis dimensions are 93,24 × 93,24 × 31 mm, and it weighs 217 grams. The box includes the Siri Remote, a power cable, and documentation. The HDMI cable is sold separately.

The thermal module’s aluminum is 80% recycled, and the remote’s chassis is made entirely of recycled aluminum.
