The next generation of the iPhone Air smartphone may become even thinner while also receiving a higher-capacity battery.

The release of the first generation of Apple’s ultra-thin smartphone sparked considerable debate. One of the main points of criticism was the small battery capacity. However, new leaks indicate that Apple intends to address this shortcoming.

According to insiders, Apple plans to reduce the thickness of the iPhone Air 2 chassis from 5.6 mm to 5.2 mm. Thus, the smartphone may match the thickness of the first foldable iPhone in its unfolded state. Increasing battery capacity while reducing chassis thickness is expected to be achieved through the use of silicon-carbon technology, which provides higher energy density. The battery capacity is expected to grow from 3,149 mAh to 3,500 mAh, an increase of approximately 11%.

Another change may be the addition of a second main camera. Rumors suggest the iPhone Air 2 will feature a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. For comparison, the original iPhone Air is equipped with only one main camera.

Changes will also affect the front panel. The Dynamic Island cutout is expected to become more compact, and the chassis will retain its titanium frame. The iPhone Air 2 is expected to be unveiled in the first half of 2027, alongside the base iPhone 18.
