Apple retail stores in the U.S. will offer welcome screen personalization for the iPhone Duo. Upon turning on the smartphone for the first time, instead of the familiar “Hello,” a personalized greeting will appear, such as “Hello, Mark.”

How it will work

It is not yet known exactly how Apple will implement this personalization. It is assumed that the company may use its proprietary Presto system, which allows for remote iOS updates on smartphones without opening the factory packaging. Apple Store employees already use this technology to install updates on devices inside sealed boxes.

If Apple utilizes Presto, customers will be able to receive a smartphone with a personalized greeting without breaking the factory seal.

Who will have access to personalization

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, personalization will be available exclusively to iPhone Duo buyers at Apple retail stores in the U.S. The feature supports only English and Spanish.

It is expected that both retail store visitors and customers who place online orders for in-store pickup will be able to use the service. However, the availability of personalization for online order pickups has not yet been confirmed. There is no word on plans to introduce the feature in Europe or other regions.
