DLSS 5 launched on AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT – the mod already delivers around 31 FPS
A modder using the pseudonym danielblnc managed to run NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering on the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card. The first version ran extremely slowly, but after several updates, performance was boosted to approximately 31 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p resolution.
The DLSS-NR project on AMD does not add a full set of DLSS technologies to Radeon graphics cards. It specifically refers to the 3D-Guided Neural Rendering from DLSS 5 – the neural network stage that processes a completed frame and alters lighting, materials, shadows, and other image details. Upscaling can remain handled by AMD FSR.
The modification works in games with DirectX 12 and FSR 3 or FSR 4. The author has now tested it on Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V Enhanced. To run it, you need Windows 11, the AMD Adrenalin driver version 26.1.1 or newer, and the nvngx_dlssnr.dll file version 310.8.0.0, which the user must obtain independently from a game with DLSS 5.
In early third-party tests, the Radeon RX 9070 XT delivered only around 12 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077. However, the developer quickly optimized the project: in Alpha 0.2.11, they now report approximately 31 FPS at 1080p. According to their assessment, image quality is close to the original DLSS 5 implementation, although some effects may still behave incorrectly. The developer’s goal is to match the performance of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.
The current version claims support for Radeon RX 9000 with RDNA 4 architecture, as well as support for RX 7000 on RDNA 3. However, only the RX 9070 XT has been fully tested so far, so compatibility with specific RX 7000 models still needs to be verified. Older Radeon cards are no longer supported.
Through the built-in menu, you can adjust the intensity of tonal processing, image structure, and skin detail. Vulkan support is planned for the future. Games with anti-cheat may also block the DLL mod, so it typically does not work in multiplayer projects.
Officially, DLSS 5 debuted on September 3 in NBA 2K27 and is currently intended for GeForce RTX 50. NVIDIA has already confirmed that the technology will later arrive on RTX 40. The DLSS-NR project on AMD is not linked to NVIDIA or AMD, so there is currently no official DLSS 5 support for Radeon.
