The main feature of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 is full support for iPhone (iOS), as well as Android smartphones from third-party manufacturers via the updated SmartThings Find app.

What is new

The design of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 has completely changed: instead of a bulky, elongated shape, the tracker now has a more elegant, rounded square body. It is 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. The built-in hole for a strap has been removed from the body; now, separate cases, such as a silicone one or a Loop Case, are required to attach it to keys.

The tracker supports the latest Bluetooth 6.0 standard with Channel Sounding technology. Combined with the UWB (Ultra-Wideband) chip, this has enabled a Compass View mode, which indicates the direction and distance to a lost item with centimeter-level accuracy at a distance of up to 60 meters. This is 3-4 times greater than previous generations.

However, these features are not available on every smartphone. At launch, Compass View with Channel Sounding is supported by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Galaxy S26 Plus. The list of compatible devices may expand in the future.

The tag still runs on a single standard CR2032 coin cell battery, but power consumption has been reduced by 10%. In normal mode, battery life reaches 550 days, and in power-saving mode, it lasts 790 days.

Also noteworthy is the aluminum physical button on the tracker’s body. It allows you not only to find a paired phone but also to trigger configured SmartThings smart home scenarios. IP67-rated water and dust resistance is provided.

Features for iPhone users

When connected to iOS-based devices, users will have access to basic search and shared access to the tag for family members. However, some advanced features, including precise search via “Compass,” calling the phone from the tag, and forgotten item alerts, will remain exclusive to Samsung smartphones.

Release dates, colors, and price

Sales of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 in South Korea start on October 7. The new product will appear in the US in early November, and will reach other countries in 2027. The cost of a single tracker is $30, and a set of four devices will cost $100. The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 is available in black and white.
