Rockstar is hunting a hacker who leaks gameplay GTA 6
Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of New York to identify users involved in the distribution of leaks from Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI).
Take-Two requested from Microsoft data on accounts that may be linked to Cyberleek. The list includes email addresses, registration and last login IP addresses, phone numbers, associated Google and Xbox accounts, MachineGuid device identifiers, MSA, and materials from OneDrive associated with GTA, Rockstar Games, or Cyberleek.
The company also wants to obtain the results of Microsoft’s internal investigation, which will help identify the person or group behind Cyberleek. The court summons project specifies a deadline for providing information until September 4. At the same time, as of August 24, the agenda had not yet been finalized by the court secretary, so user data has not been transmitted.
Microsoft has already confirmed its collaboration with Take-Two. Xbox’s Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Writ reported that the company is helping Take-Two and Rockstar protect intellectual property.
Take-Two requested data from thousands of Discord users
A separate request concerns Discord. Take-Two wants to obtain information about all accounts that communicated on several specified servers since June 1. The issue potentially concerns thousands of users, not just the direct authors of the leaks.
The documents feature Cyberleek, CinematicRockstar, and Surfer24k, servers Ødyssey.gg and ! Odyssey, as well as the editor server for the popular GTA V-streamer Matthew Judge, known as DarkViperAU.
Judge stated that he does not know why Take-Two became interested in his server. According to him, no leaks were published there, and Rockstar Games did not contact him directly.
The investigation has reached X and YouTube
The next day, Take-Two filed two more requests, this time against X and Google. The company is attempting to obtain data from three X accounts and users associated with several YouTube channels where GTA 6 materials were distributed.
The YouTube query includes the channels CyberLeeks, Surfer24k, and Cyberleek_ar_io. One of the published videos was automatically detected by the YouTube Content ID system after a complaint from Rockstar.
At the same time, X accounts that Take-Two became interested in were previously called fake by community members themselves. In later leaks, Cyberleek even added a caption to the video stating that he does not have an X account. All three pages are currently blocked.
What is known about Cyberleek
The first materials of this leak series appeared on August 18. A user or group named Cyberleek has begun publishing unpublished gameplay recordings of GTA VI. The videos feature Jason Duvall, rides through the game world, flights, fights, and other mechanics. In one of the videos, a player wrote the word LEEK on the wall with shots, indicating possible access to a working build of the game.
Alongside the leaks, Cyberleek published a manifesto against several practices in the gaming industry. Its authors oppose digital pre-orders, selling already completed content as DLC, and the removal of standalone games after servers are shut down. Publishers violating these principles are threatened by Cyberleek with new attacks and demanded public apologies.
At the same time, Cyberleek’s activities are not limited to protest alone. Advertisements for the $CYBERLEEK token on the Solana network have appeared in published videos. The authors of the leaks also attempted to raise funds for their own project.
The identity of Cyberleek has not yet been established. It is also unknown whether this name belongs to a single person or a group.
In 2022, Rockstar Games already faced the largest leak of GTA VI. Then dozens of video clips from an early version of the game leaked online. After the incident, the company strengthened internal security measures and in 2024 mandated that employees return to a five-day workweek from the office.
This leak occurred a few days before the official extended showcase of GTA VI on Netflix, which will take place on August 27. The game release is scheduled for November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. GTA VI has already been postponed twice. Initially, the game was planned to be released in autumn 2025, then the release was postponed to May 2026, and later to November.
