iPhone Duo owners complain about smudge-prone display
The inner foldable display of iPhone Duo has proved to be a real magnet for fingerprints and greasy smears. The screen loses its clean look within just a few minutes of use, and ordinary cloths struggle to remove the marks.
The main reason the display smudges so easily is Apple’s proprietary matte nano-texture coating, which the company applied to disguise the crease down the center of the screen. The nano-texture reduces glare effectively, making the fold less noticeable, but its surface has a microscopic texture.
Oil from people’s fingers gets into the tiny recesses on the surface, leaving noticeable greasy patches in areas that are frequently touched or scrolled over. The protective polymer-composite layer makes matters worse: marks stand out more on it than on ordinary glossy glass.
Fingerprints are almost impossible to wipe away with a regular cloth: the oil spreads across the coating’s microtexture, leaving whitish smears. The foldable screen also must not be wiped with alcohol-based solutions or wet wipes, as these could damage the polymer coating.
To clean the screen, owners have to use Apple’s special polishing cloth or a high-quality microfiber cloth, carefully removing smudges with circular motions without applying much pressure to the fold area.
