Huawei has unveiled the Mate 90 Pro Max, Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design.

All three smartphones feature 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED displays, 6,800 mAh batteries, and cameras with a 200 MP telephoto lens, while the Collector’s Edition and RS Ultimate Design support the Huawei Ruiying Z10 external modular camera with a 1-inch sensor and 10x continuous optical zoom.

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max

The Mate 90 Pro Max features a centrally symmetrical design with a large circular camera module and a back panel with a crystal lattice texture.

The smartphone features a 6.9-inch dual-layer LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2848 × 1320 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz, a PWM frequency of 1440 Hz, a touch sampling rate of 300 Hz, and BT.2020 color gamut coverage. The claimed peak brightness reaches 12,000 nits at 1% white screen coverage. The screen is protected by third-generation Kunlun Glass.

The version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage is equipped with the Kirin 9050, while the 16/512 GB variant features the Kirin 9050 Pro. The higher-end chip uses the LogicFolding architecture and Maleoon 955 graphics with hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The smartphone runs on HarmonyOS 7.0.

The main camera includes four components:

  • 50 MP, f/1.4-4.0, 24 mm equivalent focal length, OIS, RYYB;
  • 40 MP, ultra-wide-angle, f/2.2, 13 mm equivalent focal length, RYYB;
  • 200 MP, periscope telephoto lens, f/2.6, 89 mm equivalent focal length, OIS, RYYB and macro photography;
  • third-generation Red Maple color reproduction camera.

The telephoto lens provides approximately 4x optical zoom, 8x optical-quality zoom, and up to 100x digital zoom. For the main camera, Huawei claims a dynamic range of up to 18 EV. The maximum video resolution is 4K.

On the front, there is a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus, as well as a 3D depth camera for face recognition.

The battery has a typical capacity of 6,800 mAh and a rated capacity of 6,615 mAh. It supports wired charging up to 100 W, 50 W wireless charging, 18 W wired reverse charging, and wireless reverse charging.

The Mate 90 Pro Max supports two nano-SIMs and up to two eSIMs. Three numbers can be active in standby mode simultaneously, though this feature is subject to Chinese carrier restrictions and requires a software update. It also features Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NearLink E2.0, NFC, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1, and Beidou satellite messaging. The chassis is rated IP68 and IP69.

The dimensions are 164,5 × 78,7 × 8,15 mm, and the weight is 234 grams.

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition

The Collector’s Edition is largely identical to the Mate 90 Pro Max, but it comes only with the Kirin 9050 Pro and 16 GB of RAM. Storage options of 512 GB and 1 TB are available. The weight has increased to 235 grams while the body dimensions remain the same.

The main difference of the screen is the Xuanwu Kunlun Glass protective layer with increased scratch resistance and an anti-reflective coating.

In addition, the Collector’s Edition supports the external Huawei Ruiying Z10 modular camera. It features a 1-inch sensor, a lens with a 24-240 mm equivalent focal length, 10x continuous optical zoom, and a variable f/2.0-4.5 aperture. The accessory is sold separately.

Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design

The Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design features an octagonal camera module, a high-gloss titanium frame, and a Xuanwu structure. The screen is protected by Xuanwu Kunlun Glass. The smartphone is available in red, white, and black.

The device is equipped with a Kirin 9050 Pro, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB, 1 TB, or 2 TB of storage. The display, built-in cameras, and battery match the Mate 90 Pro Max: a 6.9-inch dual-layer LTPO OLED panel, a 50 MP main camera, a 200 MP telephoto lens, and a 6,800 mAh battery with 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging.

The RS Ultimate Design also works with the Huawei Ruiying Z10, but it uses a separate version of the accessory mount.

Unlike the Pro Max, the RS model supports not only Beidou messaging but also Tiantong satellite communication. It also features support for four numbers and standby mode for three of them.

The dimensions are 164,5 × 78,7 × 8,4 mm, and the weight is 248 grams.
