Google Playground is an AI-based web platform that allows you to create and run games directly in your browser using simple text prompts. Users just need to describe the idea, rules, genre, and visual style of the game they want to build.

Playground works as a chat interface and allows you to create projects from scratch or use pre-made templates. The platform supports 2D and 3D games, as well as single-player and multiplayer modes. It utilizes Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria models.

One of the features of Playground is the ability to modify the game using text commands during the development process. For example, a user can adjust physics, rewrite rules, or change characters and environments without manually editing code.

Finished games can be kept private, shared with other users via a direct link, or published in the public Playground Explore gallery. Some games also support leaderboards with Google Play Games profile integration.

At launch, Playground is available to users over 18 in the United States. Creating games is free, and Google One subscribers receive increased weekly limits. Games published in Playground Explore are reviewed for community guideline compliance, and users can report content.

Playground is unlikely to replace full-fledged professional development tools, but it can significantly speed up prototyping and testing game ideas. For more complex projects, Google and Unity have also announced Unity Spark, a separate tool with advanced capabilities for creating 3D games using the Unity environment.
