
Apple is developing two game controllers
Apple, according to macOS 26.7 code, has tested at least two of its own game controllers. Devices with indices T6502 and T1057 received separate system profiles and hardware plugins, but support for them was completely removed in the second release-candidate build of macOS.
Both devices are recognized by the system as extended gamepads in the Made for iPhone category. They feature four ABXY buttons, a D-pad, two pressable analog sticks, two shoulder buttons, analog triggers, and system keys. However, the controllers differ significantly in capabilities.

The T6502 appears to be a simpler variant. It is identified as an Apple USB device and does not transmit motion data. The profile also lacks a touch surface, rear buttons, speaker, or microphone.
Apple, however, experimented with an unusual haptic feedback system: the left and right sides have both standard and “synthetic” software channels. macOS can match requests from games and the system to send a stronger effect to the controller without forcing one vibration source to completely interrupt the other. In macOS 26.7 and macOS 27, this scheme is not used for other supported controllers.

T1057 is structured differently. It can be identified as an Apple device when connected via USB or Bluetooth, and one of the detected identifiers belongs to Beats USB.
The controller transmits accelerometer and gyroscope data across three axes. Its haptic feedback system uses a single actuator and enables the device itself to inform macOS of available effects, which the system converts into vibration, buzzing, and clicks. This may indicate an experimental prototype whose specifications Apple modified during development.
Will Apple release game controllers?
The existence of physical prototypes is indicated by individual hardware plugins that allowed macOS to recognize devices, receive signals from buttons and sensors, and control haptic feedback. Additionally, both controllers use Apple manufacturer identifiers rather than just generic Game Controller profiles.
However, this does not yet confirm plans for mass production. Support for T6502 and T1057 appeared in the first RC build of macOS 26.7 and was removed already from the second one. The controllers could have been internal test devices or cancelled projects. Currently, iPhone, iPad, and Mac already support third-party game controllers, including PlayStation and Xbox models.
