Xiaomi unveiled the flagship Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max tablet in China. It is the first tablet powered by the proprietary XRING O3 processor. The device also features a 13.3-inch display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a 12,000 mAh battery supporting 120 W charging, and a DP-IN video input that allows the device to be used as an external monitor.

Screen

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max is equipped with a 13.3-inch IPS display featuring a resolution of 3408 × 2272 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Peak global brightness reaches 1000 nits, with an advertised color accuracy of ΔE≈0.47.

The display supports 12-bit color depth, DCI-P3 color space, HDR10, HDR Vivid, and Dolby Vision. It features DC Dimming across the entire brightness range down to 1 nit, along with TÜV Rheinland certification for reduced blue light and flicker-free operation.

In addition to the standard glossy screen, Xiaomi offers versions with a nano-textured matte coating that reduces reflections and makes the surface feel more like paper when using a stylus.

The chassis is made of metal. Its dimensions are 296,2 × 203,08 × 5,67 mm. The standard version weighs 645 grams, while the matte screen variant weighs 653 grams. Available colors are burgundy, black, and silver.

Performance

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max became the first tablet powered by the XRING O3 processor. The chip is manufactured using a 3-nm process and contains approximately 24 billion transistors. The ten-core CPU includes two C1-Ultra cores with frequencies up to 4.35 GHz, four C1-Premium cores up to 3.68 GHz, and four C1-Pro cores up to 3.15 GHz. The XRING O3 memory subsystem supports bandwidth up to 113.8 GB/s.

Graphics are handled by a 16-core GPU G2-Ultra NX with third-generation hardware ray tracing. XRING O3 also includes a redesigned NPU with claimed performance up to 200 TOPS for artificial intelligence tasks.

In one of the early Geekbench 6.7.1 tests, the tablet scored 3474 points in single-core mode and 13229 points in multi-core mode. Later results exceeded 14000 points in the multi-core test.

Xiaomi also demonstrated launching an open-world game at 3.2K resolution and approximately 120 frames per second. However, this relies on super-resolution and frame generation technologies, not native rendering of the game at 3.2K and 120 FPS.

To dissipate heat, a thin evaporative chamber with a capillary structure is used. According to Xiaomi’s internal tests, cooling efficiency increased by 11%, and the maximum processor temperature was reduced by 11 °C.

Memory configurations differ not only in capacity. The base 8 + 256 GB version uses LPDDR5X, most variants with 12 and 16 GB of RAM feature LPDDR5T, while the top-tier 16 GB + 1 TB model employs LPDDR6 memory.

All versions use the UFS 4.1 storage drive. A microSD slot and a variant with mobile network support are not announced.

Cameras and audio

The rear panel features a single 50-MP camera that supports 4K video recording at 60 fps.

For video calls and selfies, a 32 MP front camera is provided with Full HD recording at 30 fps.

The audio system consists of eight speakers – four low-frequency and four high-frequency. It supports Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. Six microphones are installed for sound recording.

Battery

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max is equipped with a dual-cell battery with a capacity of 12,000 mAh and supports wired charging at up to 120 W. According to Xiaomi, the battery can be charged to approximately 60% in 20 minutes.

Through the USB Type-C port, the tablet can charge other devices with up to 27 W of power. Another power option is provided for automotive use: via POGO contacts, charging with up to 45 W is supported.

Integration with vehicles

The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max can be mounted on the back of the front seat of a compatible Xiaomi vehicle and used as an additional screen for second-row passengers.

In this mode, the tablet integrates with the vehicle’s system and is used not only for entertainment but also to control available car functions.

Ports and Software

USB Type-C operates under the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard with data transfer speeds up to 10 Gbit/s. The main difference from most Android tablets is support for DP-IN to receive audio and video signals.

Thanks to this, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max can be connected via cable to a computer and used as an additional touch monitor. When a stylus is connected, the tablet becomes a graphics display, and a gaming console or portable gaming PC with DisplayPort 1.2 or higher support can output to its 13.3-inch screen.

Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. It also features an infrared transmitter, a magnetic keyboard attachment, and a mounting and charging area for the stylus. The fingerprint scanner is integrated into the side power button.

The tablet runs on HyperOS 4. The system supports displaying up to six apps simultaneously, includes two- and three-window modes, and features a redesigned file manager and document viewer.

Also included are WPS for Pad, a browser with vertical tabs, tab grouping, and extensions, while Xiaomi Notes supports voice notes and automatic creation of structured diagrams from recorded content.

Release dates and price

Sales of the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max launched in China on September 7:

  • 8 GB LPDDR5X and 256 GB – 4,799 yuan (≈ $715);
  • 12 GB LPDDR5X and 256 GB – 5,299 yuan (≈ $790);
  • 16 GB LPDDR5X and 256 GB – 5799 yuan (≈ $864);
  • 12 GB LPDDR5X and 512 GB – 6099 yuan (≈ $909);
  • 16 GB LPDDR5X and 512 GB – ¥6,599 (≈ $983);
  • 16 GB LPDDR5X and 512 GB, matte screen – ¥6899 (≈ $1028);
  • 16 GB LPDDR6 and 1 TB, matte display – ¥7899 (≈ $1177).

The proprietary keyboard costs 1099 yuan (approximately $164), and the Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro is priced at 599 yuan (about $89). As part of the launch promotion, tablet buyers in China receive a stylus and a USB Type-C cable with DP-IN support.

The dates for the international release of the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max have not yet been announced.
