The Xbox Nano Controller is the smallest gamepad for Xbox, designed for children, people with smaller hands, and fans of mobile gaming. The controller weighs just 99 grams, has the familiar Xbox controls, and costs $50.

Design and controls

The Xbox Nano Controller is just over 127 mm long, making it shorter than most modern smartphones. Its compact size makes the gamepad easy to fit in a pocket or bag. Microsoft has still retained all 18 standard controls, including analog sticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, bumpers, and triggers.

It also has a programmable Action Button. You can assign it to take screenshots, record gameplay, or perform other frequently used actions.

The controller also supports button remapping through the Xbox Accessories app on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, as well as Windows 10/11 PCs. A compatible USB-C cable, sold separately, is required to configure it on a PC.

In early leaks, the Xbox Nano Controller was shown with a small screen displaying connection status. The final version of the device, however, has no display.

Connectivity and battery life

The gamepad supports two wireless standards:

  • Xbox Wireless – for connecting to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles;
  • Bluetooth – for use with Windows 10/11 PCs, Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, and compatible smart TVs.

Unlike the standard Xbox wireless controller, which typically runs on replaceable AA batteries, the Xbox Nano Controller has a built-in rechargeable battery. It charges via a USB-C port, but no cable is included. Microsoft has not disclosed the battery capacity or how long it lasts on a charge.

The gamepad can be used for Xbox Cloud Gaming without a console. On compatible Samsung TVs, games launch through the Xbox app in Gaming Hub; on supported Meta Quest headsets, they launch through the Xbox app.
