Apple releases smart home devices including cameras, a door lock, and thermostats
Apple has introduced the Home Collection, a line of smart home devices developed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It includes AI-powered security cameras, an electronic door lock, and smart thermostats.
Security cameras
The lineup includes four LG cameras for monitoring indoor and outdoor areas. The devices record video at up to 2.5K resolution and can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles, and packages.

Each model is designed for specific tasks:
- LG Video Doorbell Wired is a wired video doorbell with two cameras. The main camera records 2.5K video to show visitors, while the bottom Full HD camera monitors packages left at the door. It features built-in lighting and a doorbell chime that plays through HomeView, HomePod, or HomePod mini.
- LG Floodlight Cam is an outdoor camera with two floodlights that turn on automatically when motion is detected. It supports color night vision in low-light conditions.
- LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In is an outdoor camera with an adjustable tilt angle and color night vision. It is designed for DIY installation.
- LG Indoor Cam Plug-In is an indoor camera with a rotating mechanism. When a user connects to the device remotely, the lens automatically rises to monitor the room. Once the first family member returns, the camera lowers and stops recording. The position can also be adjusted manually or via the Apple Home app.

All four cameras feature built-in storage, allowing recording to continue even during temporary Wi-Fi outages. Live streams are available via the Home app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, and HomeView.

iCloud+ users have access to event recordings from the last 10 days. On compatible plans, Apple Intelligence generates text descriptions of what is happening in the frame and allows users to find specific video recordings using natural language queries.
Smart door lock
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock supports Ultra Wideband (UWB), which allows it to detect the owner’s approach and automatically unlock the door without the need to tap a smartphone or watch. This requires a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch with a configured Apple Home Key digital key.

There are also three alternative unlocking methods: tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch, entering a PIN code on the built-in keypad, and using a mechanical key via a hidden keyhole.
The lock tracks when the door is opened and closed, reports tampering attempts, and warns if the door remains open even when the mechanism is locked. Temporary access can be granted to guests via Apple Home.

When used in conjunction with the LG Video Doorbell, users can see visitors, speak with them, and unlock the door directly from the app interface or using Siri.
Support for Matter and the Aliro standard allows basic lock operations to be performed locally, even without an internet connection.
Smart thermostats and sensors
Apple, in collaboration with partners, has developed two thermostats: the LG Smart Thermostat and the Schneider Home Smart Thermostat. Both support Adaptive Temperature technology, which automatically adjusts the temperature based on the presence of residents, bedtime, and other daily routines.
The LG Temperature Sensor and Schneider Home Room Sensor are available to determine conditions in individual rooms. The thermostats can also use readings from sensors built into HomeView, HomePod, and HomePod mini.

The Clean Energy Guidance feature is available in the continental United States. With a compatible rate plan, it allows for shifting heating and cooling to periods with cheaper and cleaner electricity. The Apple Home app displays data on energy consumption and rate periods.
The thermostats are compatible with a wide range of HVAC systems, support Matter, and feature wire detection to simplify installation.
Data management and security
All Apple Home Collection devices are set up via iPhone using NFC and managed in the Home app. There is no need to install a separate manufacturer app or create an additional account.
The accessories support Thread, Siri voice control, and automatic network setting updates when home Wi-Fi parameters change.
Devices can be combined into automation scenes. For example, when the last family member leaves the house, the system can simultaneously lock the door, activate cameras, and switch the heating to energy-saving mode. Before residents return, the thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature.
Apple Home app data is protected by end-to-end encryption. According to Apple, neither the company itself, nor LG Electronics, nor Schneider Electric has access to users’ personal information. Video recordings are processed locally on an Apple home hub or via Private Cloud Compute.
Some features require a compatible home hub, such as HomeView, HomePod, or Apple TV. Recording HomeKit Secure Video event history requires an iCloud+ subscription:
- 50 GB – one camera;
- 200 GB – up to five cameras;
- 2 TB – unlimited number of cameras.
AI video descriptions and content search additionally require an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone or iPad, a suitable iCloud+ plan, and a home hub with the latest software version. The number of cameras for which individual AI features are available also depends on the subscription.
