MediaTek Helio G99+ unveiled – updated 6nm chip for budget smartphones
MediaTek unveiled the Helio G99+, an updated version of the 4G chipset Helio G99 for budget smartphones. The architecture has changed little: the main innovation is support for faster LPDDR5X RAM.
Features
The MediaTek Helio G99+ is manufactured using TSMC’s 6-nm process. The chip supports LPDDR5X with data transfer speeds up to 5500 Mbit/s, replacing LPDDR4X. However, the CPU and GPU remain unchanged.
CPU includes two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores clocked up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked up to 2.0 GHz. Graphics processing is handled by the Mali-G57 MC2.
The Helio G99+ supports UFS 2.2 storage, cameras with resolutions up to 108 MP, and displays with resolutions up to 2520 × 1080 pixels and refresh rates up to 120 Hz.
The 4G LTE Cat-13 modem handles mobile connectivity. Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2 are supported. The platform does not support 5G networks.
The first smartphone with Helio G99+
One of the first smartphones to feature the MediaTek Helio G99+ is the Samsung Galaxy A07s. Thus, the G99 update primarily enables manufacturers to adopt more modern LPDDR5X memory without altering the other core capabilities of the well-known platform.
