Official iPhone Duo case for $79 attaches to the smartphone with adhesive
Apple has surprised everyone once again. Alongside the launch of its new foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, the company released a protective case priced at $79 that attaches to the device’s body with double-sided tape.
How does the case attach?
According to MacRumors, the case consists of two pieces, with adhesive strips along their inner edges. To install it, remove the protective backing from the strips, position both halves of the case on the smartphone, and press them firmly against the body.

The accessory is made of polycarbonate with a matte finish and comes in two colors: Sand and Navy Blue. It protects the back panel, including the camera area, and the frame around the outer display. The inner foldable screen remains exposed.
The design also incorporates magnets that help align the accessory with the smartphone and support MagSafe wireless charging. However, the two halves of the case are held securely to the body by adhesive strips.
Journalist Parker Ortolani, who has already tried the official case, noted its pleasant, non-slip surface. According to him, using adhesive strips is not unusual for foldable smartphones: similar attachments are also found on accessories from other manufacturers.
Can the case be reused?
The main question is how easy it is to remove and reinstall the accessory—for example, if the owner needs to clean dust off the smartphone or switch to another case.

Apple does not specify how many removal and reinstallation cycles the adhesive attachment can withstand. The adhesive strips will obviously hold the accessory less securely after being removed several times.
In addition, with regular use, the adhesive layer may collect dust, lint, and other debris, which can reduce its ability to stick.
Could the adhesive leave marks on the body?
Another question is what condition the smartphone will be in after the case is removed. The adhesive strips come into direct contact with the surface of the iPhone Duo and could, in theory, leave marks after prolonged use.
For users who frequently change cases, an alternative could be the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand for $129. It attaches with magnets and does not require adhesive strips. However, this accessory does not protect the sides of the smartphone, and its front cover blocks the outer display.
Both official cases appeared in retail stores before shipments of the iPhone Duo, scheduled for October 23, began.
