GTA 6 has received an R18+ age rating in Australia. The classification description explicitly mentions sex scenes, high-impact violence, and drug use.

The Australian Classification Board assigned Grand Theft Auto VI an R18+ rating back on August 27. The user warnings listed are “high-impact violence, sex scenes, and drug use.” The entry refers to the original multiplatform version of the game and is based on a demonstration of materials submitted for classification.

A similar description appeared on the New Zealand PlayStation Store. There, GTA 6 received a Restricted 18 rating, with reasons listed including drug use, graphic violence, nudity, strong language, and sex scenes.

The European version of the PlayStation Store uses slightly different wording: it lists drugs, sexual content, extreme violence, nudity, and in-game purchases. The American ESRB assigned GTA 6 a Mature 17+ rating for blood and gore, intense violence, sexual themes, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and the use of drugs and alcohol.

The mere appearance of the phrase “sex scenes” does not mean such content is debuting in Grand Theft Auto. GTA V already featured sexual acts with prostitutes, and the ESRB specifically mentioned simulated oral sex and other sexual acts. However, the characters in those episodes remained clothed, and the action was primarily conveyed through animation and sound.

Therefore, the ratings for GTA 6 likely point to a possible change in the nature or degree of explicitness of such scenes.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version has not yet been announced.
