Prices revealed for the GPD WIN Max 3 portable device – the top version costs $3499

The company GPD revealed the preliminary price of WIN Max 3. The base version of the portable gaming PC will cost $1750, while the maximum configuration with 128 GB of RAM is almost twice as expensive. At the same time, prices for the remaining versions and the approximate launch date of the crowdfunding campaign became known.

A representative of GPD stated that the company initially planned to set the starting price at $1699, but after the final cost calculation, it had to be increased by $50. In GPD, they attribute this to the rising cost of memory and smaller component procurement volumes compared to major PC manufacturers.

Currently, three configurations have been announced:

• Ryzen AI Max+ 388, 32 GB RAM and SSD on 1 TБ – $1750;
• Ryzen AI Max+ 388, 64 GB RAM and SSD on 2 TБ – $2246;
• Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 128 GB RAM and SSD on 2 TБ – $3499.

This refers to the prices for campaign participants on Indiegogo, so the subsequent retail price may differ.

The package will include the WIN Max 3, a removable battery with a capacity of 97 Wh, and a power adapter. Additionally, the campaign on Indiegogo GPD promised to provide all participants with an additional cooling module for free. Delivery is also stated to be free.

Display

GPD WIN Max 3 is noticeably different from WIN Max 2. Instead of a 10.1-inch IPS panel, the new product features a more compact 9.06-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400×1504 pixels and a density of 313 ppi.

The screen supports refresh rates of 60, 120, 144, and 165 Hz, HDR10, and 10-bit color display. Standard brightness is 650 nits, and in HBM mode the value reaches 1050 nits. A full subpixel structure RGB is used, not PenTile. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 6, supports ten simultaneous touches and active styluses.

Performance

The base of the lower versions uses AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 388 with eight Zen 5 cores and 16 threads, while the top model received a 16-core 32-thread Ryzen AI Max+ 395. Processor frequencies reach 5.0 and 5.1 ГГц, respectively.

At the same time, both chips share the same graphics – Radeon 8060S on RDNA 3.5 architecture with 40 compute units and 2560 stream processors. The maximum frequency of GPU is 2.9 ГГц.

LPDDR5X-8000 is used with a bandwidth of up to 256 GB/s. The version with 128 GB of memory is particularly interesting: up to 96 GB can be allocated to the integrated graphics. This allows using the WIN Max 3 not only for gaming but also for running large local AI models without a discrete graphics card.

Earlier, GPD published its own gaming tests for the version with Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 64 GB of memory, and TDP in the range of 55-75 W. At 1920×1080 resolution, the manufacturer achieved approximately 98 fps in Forza Horizon 5, 75 fps in Red Dead Redemption 2, 70 fps in Cyberpunk 2077, 52 fps in Starfield, and 42 fps in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Independent tests of the final device have not been published yet.

Removable battery and cooling

One of the most unusual features of WIN Max 3 is its modular back. The computer itself weighs 815 grams and does not have a traditional built-in battery. Instead, a removable module with a capacity of 97 Wh and a mass of 405 grams is installed at the back. With it, the total weight increases to 1.22 kg.

Instead of the battery, you can install a separate module with two additional fans. It increases the weight to 985 grams and allows the system to operate with power consumption up to 110 W without a dock station.

For maximum power, a bundled 180 W power supply unit is provided. USB4 also supports Power Delivery with up to 100 W. WIN Max 3 can operate directly from the network adapter without an installed battery.

Memory, interfaces, and control

Three options are provided for storage drives: the main M.2 2280 PCIe slot 4.0×4, an additional M.2 2230 PCIe slot 4.0×2, and a Mini SSD 1517 slot. The latter is designed for compact removable SSD.

The interface suite includes USB4 with speeds up to 40 Gbit/s and DisplayPort 2.1, another USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, two full-size USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI 2.1 FRL, and a 3.5-mm audio jack. Wireless connectivity is represented by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

The gaming section includes two joysticks, analog triggers on Hall effect sensors with 4096 levels of pressure, additional L4/R4 buttons, a six-axis gyroscope, and two linear vibration motors. The right stick can operate in cursor control mode. It also features a full-sized keyboard, trackpad, fingerprint scanner in the power button, and a 5-MP camera.

The chassis measures 207×147×34 mm without external modules and 207×180×34 mm with the battery or additional cooling.

When will sales begin

A representative of GPD reported that the launch of the WIN Max 3 campaign on Indiegogo is tentatively scheduled for September 2, 2026. Earlier, it was expected that orders would start being accepted at the end of August.

Thus, $1750 is not the final retail price, but the starting cost of the base version within the crowdfunding campaign. The most expensive configuration was the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 128 GB of memory for $3499 – exactly twice as expensive as the base variant.
