iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro compared for camera quality
Professional photographer Tyler Stalman put the cameras on the foldable iPhone Duo through a detailed test and compared them with those on the iPhone 18 Pro. The test showed what Apple sacrificed for the foldable design and what advantages the new form factor brings.
Main camera
The iPhone Duo has two 48-megapixel Fusion cameras: a main camera and an ultrawide. That’s enough for everyday photography, but the foldable model falls behind the iPhone 18 Pro in detail and image processing.

The difference is more noticeable in challenging lighting, when a phone has to preserve detail in both the highlights and shadows. Still, the iPhone Duo’s image quality is perfectly adequate for social media, family photos, and everyday shooting.
No telephoto camera limits zoom
One notable limitation of the iPhone Duo is that it lacks a dedicated telephoto camera. When shooting distant subjects, the phone has to rely more heavily on digital cropping and post-processing, so fine details are lost more quickly as you zoom in.

The iPhone 18 Pro has a dedicated telephoto camera for these situations. It’s useful for portraits, architecture, and any subjects you can’t get closer to. If you use zoom regularly, the Pro model has the edge.
The convenience of a foldable design
The iPhone Duo, however, offers features that a standard iPhone can’t. Its outer display can serve as a viewfinder when shooting with the main cameras. The person in front of the lens can see the frame and adjust their position or composition.

The foldable design also lets you prop the phone up at an angle on a surface, without a tripod or separate stand. That’s useful for group photos, video recording, and video calls. In these situations, the iPhone Duo’s form factor is more than a design feature—it’s a practical tool for shooting.
Video recording
The iPhone Duo records video in 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 frames per second. This mode is suitable for fast-moving scenes and for slowing down selected clips later.

The iPhone 18 Pro offers more options for post-production. It supports ProRes and Apple Log 2, giving you more flexibility when editing and color grading. The Duo is capable enough for everyday videos, but the Pro model remains the more versatile tool for professional video work.
Which model should you choose for photography?
Tyler Stalman’s test showed that the iPhone Duo isn’t a substitute for the iPhone 18 Pro for users who want the most versatile camera system possible. The foldable model lacks a telephoto camera and some tools for professional video recording.
The Duo’s design, however, opens up other possibilities: the outer display makes it easier to take selfies with the main cameras, and the foldable body can replace a small stand. So choosing between the models comes down to more than camera quality. The iPhone 18 Pro is better suited to zoom and serious photo and video work, while the iPhone Duo prioritizes shooting convenience thanks to its foldable design.
