Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, an AI agent for handling complex tasks
Anthropic has announced the launch of a research preview of Claude Duet, a new AI agent powered by the flagship language model Claude Opus 5.5.
Unlike conventional chatbots, which wait for a user prompt, Duet is designed to work more independently. The agent can analyze workflows, set priorities and handle complex tasks in the background.
Cloud autonomy and thousands of integrations
Claude Duet runs on an isolated virtual machine in the cloud and uses its own built-in browser. This allows the agent to keep working even when the user’s laptop or smartphone is turned off.

Through the Claude Marketplace catalog, the agent can connect to more than 6,000 external services and apps, including Gmail, Slack, HubSpot, Stripe and Shopify. Claude Duet can find missed messages, draft replies, flag calendar conflicts and assemble analytics dashboards. Each morning, the app sends the user a summary of the day’s tasks, then checks connected services every few hours.
Control over actions and data protection
The high degree of autonomy called for additional security measures. Anthropic has introduced a permissions system: before taking critical or financial actions, such as sending an email, deleting files or paying bills, Claude Duet must show the user a plan and receive explicit approval. To make transactions, the agent uses Stripe’s secure Link wallet with virtual cards.
Some operations are blocked at the system level. Even with the user’s permission, Claude Duet cannot trade securities or transfer money between bank accounts. An additional neural-network classifier blocks attempts to share confidential data with third parties.
When will Claude Duet be available?
For now, Claude Duet is available as a research preview. Users in the US with Claude Pro and Max subscriptions can join the waitlist. The agent is available on iOS and Android, as well as through claude.ai.
No separate Duet subscription is required: the service is included in the Pro and Max plans and shares a usage limit with other Claude features.
For now, Claude Duet is geared primarily toward work tasks. Travel, ticket purchases and other personal errands are not yet among its strengths. Anthropic plans to gradually expand the agent’s capabilities based on feedback from early users.
