AYN announces the Odin 3 Portal handheld console
AYN has revealed the specifications of its Odin 3 Portal handheld gaming console. The device will feature a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 processor, a 9,000 mAh battery and an upgraded cooling system. It will weigh 450 grams.
Performance and cooling
The AYN Odin 3 Portal is powered by a 3 nm Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 processor, whose specifications are close to those of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, but which lacks a cellular modem. The chip features eight Oryon cores clocked at up to 4.32 GHz and an Adreno 830 GPU.
The standard Odin 3 uses a similar platform. Its performance is sufficient to run demanding Android games and emulate a range of console and PC titles. However, compatibility and performance in individual games depend on the software used.
The device has an active cooling system with a built-in fan to dissipate heat. The manufacturer promises effective cooling with low noise, but the new console has not yet undergone independent testing.
Design and controls
The Odin 3 Portal resembles its predecessor, Odin 2 Portal. The console features an ergonomic body with enlarged grips, full-size analog sticks with Hall effect sensors, ABXY buttons, analog triggers and extra buttons on the back.
The front is protected by AGAF glass with an anti-glare treatment and a coating that helps reduce fingerprints.
The device weighs 450 grams. That is 60 grams more than the standard Odin 3, but the console remains relatively light for a device with a large screen and active cooling.
AYN has not yet revealed the display’s exact specifications. A 7-inch OLED panel is expected, as on the Odin 2 Portal, but its diagonal size, resolution and refresh rate have yet to be confirmed.
Battery
The AYN Odin 3 Portal has a 9,000 mAh battery. That is 1,000 mAh, or 12.5%, more than the Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal, which have 8,000 mAh batteries.
The increased capacity provides extra headroom for long gaming sessions, although actual battery life will depend on the workload and the display’s power consumption. The manufacturer has not yet specified the charging power.
Pricing and release date
AYN has yet to announce the Odin 3 Portal’s price, when preorders will open or when sales will begin.
Other details that remain unknown include the RAM and storage configurations, Android version, supported interfaces, exact dimensions and available colors. The manufacturer is expected to reveal these details later.
